About Ford's Clothier

Serving Gentlemen and their Sons

ford's clothier storefrontFord’s Clothier has been providing fine men’s clothing and accessories to “gentlemen and their sons” on Cleveland’s west side for over a century.  Ford’s Clothier current owner, Paul Gorton, started out at Ford’s Clothier when he was just 16 years old. After having worked part-time and then full-time for the Ford’s family for 37 years, Paul was offered the opportunity to purchase the business from the Ford family in 2008. After careful consideration, Paul decided he was destined to carry on the Ford’s name as one of the preeminent providers of fine men’s clothing on Cleveland’s west side.

ford's clothier staffFord’s Clothier was started back in 1913 as the W. N. Ford Supply Company by William Ford. The original location was at 1824 West 48th Street in Cleveland, Ohio and a photo of William standing in front of his store still hangs in Ford’s Clothier current locale.  William’s son George eventually took over the store and throughout the years moved it among several locations on Madison Avenue in Lakewood.  In time, George Ford settled in at the current Rocky River location on Detroit Road when the shopping plaza was built there around 1960. George’s son Jeff Ford took over the reins of Ford’s Clothier in 1979 and retired in 2008 which is when Paul Gorton stepped in to lead Ford’s Clothier into its 100th year.

Ford's ClothierAs one might imagine, Ford’s Clothier has transitioned with the times over decades of fashion trends. For most of the 20th century, a suit or coat and tie was the required office uniform. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, “business casual” slowly became acceptable and today, wearing a suit and tie to work is more the oddity than the norm. Ford’s has kept pace with these trends by offering fewer suits, sports coats and ties and more casual wear like patterned shirts, sweaters and vests, khakis and, of course, novelty socks. But don’t be alarmed, Ford’s still offers a healthy selection of the best suits, coats and trousers available in the area so that when the occasion (or mood) arises to look good, you can be at your best!

Please stop by Ford’s Clothier soon to browse our current selection of sports shirts, pants, pullovers, jackets, suits, sports coats, and so much more. We’re here every day but Sunday and would be happy to show you around and answer your questions.
